Job Summary:

The Assistant Project Manager supports Project Managers in the total management of projects assigned to the Electrical Division, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, customer interaction, and internal reporting and coordination. The Assistant Project Manager carries substantially the same responsibilities as a Project Manager but, given less tenure and experience in the role, works under the close supervision of a Project Manager on all project requirements. Position offers career path to Project Management.

Essential Responsibilities:

Project Execution & Coordination:

Support the Project Manager in the successful execution of assigned commercial electrical construction projects from pre-construction through closeout, ensuring work is delivered on schedule, within scope, and within budget.
Assist with developing project scopes, objectives, schedules, and detailed project plans; monitor progress against key milestones and deliverables.
Coordinate with Project Managers, Foremen, Superintendents, Engineering/CAD teams, and other project stakeholders to support efficient day-to-day project execution.
Help identify, track, and resolve project issues, escalating significant concerns to the Project Manager, Project Supervisor, or Superintendent as appropriate.
Provide concise and timely project reporting to support project accountability and decision-making.

Project Documentation & Administration:

Manage and maintain accurate project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, change orders, transmittals, correspondence, and other project records using applicable project management systems and software.
Support the development and review of shop drawings and coordinate with Engineering/CAD teams to facilitate timely approvals.
Apply appropriate processes and controls to help manage changes to project scope, schedule, and cost.

Scheduling, Materials & Procurement:

Assist with maintaining project schedules, tracking milestones, and coordinating daily activities with electrical Foremen and other field personnel.
Track procurement and material deliveries to ensure materials are ordered, received, and available at the jobsite when needed for construction.
Verify that materials and equipment meet contract specifications, quality requirements, and project needs.
Assist with managing vendors, subcontractors, and manufacturers to support timely and efficient project execution.

Cost Management & Billing:

Assist with monitoring project costs, reviewing job cost reports, and identifying variances or potential cost concerns.
Support the preparation of quarterly job projections, forecasts, and other project financial reports using appropriate cost analysis techniques.
Assist with timely monthly billing, including tracking percent complete and supporting negotiations with clients regarding progress billing.
Support the preparation, pricing, negotiation, and processing of change orders with clients and other project stakeholders.

Client & Subcontractor Relationships:

Support the Project Manager in maintaining strong, professional relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
Communicate professionally and collaboratively with subcontractors, vendors, manufacturers, engineers, architects, and clients.
Assist in addressing and resolving project-related issues while maintaining positive working relationships and a focus on project objectives.

Risk, Safety & Compliance:

Assist with identifying and managing project risks and implementing appropriate actions to minimize potential impacts to cost, schedule, quality, and project delivery.
Support the development of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and other required safety documentation.
Assist with the management and oversight of M/W/DBE requirements and other applicable project compliance obligations.

Field & Construction Support:

Work closely with the Foreman to discuss and help resolve daily project and construction issues, escalating matters when appropriate.
Support coordination between field operations and project management to ensure construction activities remain aligned with project plans, schedules, and client requirements.
Assist with coordinating resources and supporting effective allocation of labor, materials, equipment, and other project resources.
Help ensure timely communication of field conditions, changes, constraints, and other issues that may affect project performance.

Required Qualifications:

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.
Relevant Experience: 2–5 years of experience in electrical construction, commercial construction, project engineering, or a related field.
Technical Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and schematics.
Project Coordination: Working knowledge of project scheduling, cost tracking, procurement, change management, submittals, RFIs, billing, and project documentation.
Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with clients, field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders.
Organization: Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
Problem Solving: Ability to identify project issues, gather relevant information, develop practical solutions, and escalate matters appropriately.
Professionalism & Integrity: Demonstrated honesty, integrity, accountability, sound judgment, and a commitment to quality and project success.
Relationship Management: Ability to work collaboratively and maintain professional relationships with clients, colleagues, subcontractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
Field Requirements: Ability to visit active construction sites, attend project and progress meetings, and travel locally as required.
Work Environment: Ability to work effectively in both an office and active construction-site environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with *commercial electrical construction** and familiarity with electrical contracting practices, means and methods, and project delivery processes.
Experience with construction management and project documentation platforms such as *Procore, Bluebeam, or similar software**.
- Experience with project cost control, forecasting, job projections, change orders, and progress billing.
- Familiarity with construction scheduling software and project management tools.
- Experience coordinating vendors, subcontractors, material procurement, and jobsite logistics.
- Familiarity with M/W/DBE requirements and other construction contract compliance requirements.
Experience preparing or supporting *Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)** and other construction safety documentation.
Demonstrated ability to work under the direction of a Project Manager while progressively taking on greater responsibility and developing toward independent project management.
