Job Summary:
The Project Executive provides leadership and oversight for a portfolio of multiple, concurrent construction projects and the Project Managers and Senior Project Managers responsible for them. The Project Executive is accountable for the overall schedule, budget, quality, and client-relationship performance of the portfolio, and serves as the primary link between project teams and executive leadership. This role combines hands-on project oversight with strategic planning, staff development, and senior-level client and stakeholder management.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, direction, and oversight to a team of Project Managers and Senior Project Managers across multiple concurrent projects.
- Ensure all projects within the assigned portfolio are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Own the overall financial performance of the assigned project portfolio, including revenue, margin, and cash flow.
- Conduct regular project reviews with each Project Manager to monitor progress, risk, and financial performance.
- Develop and maintain senior-level relationships with clients, owners, and key stakeholders across the portfolio.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for significant client, schedule, or performance issues.
- Lead or oversee negotiation of major change orders, claims, and contractual issues.
- Participate in business development, proposal preparation, and project pursuit efforts.
- Direct resource allocation and staffing decisions across the portfolio in partnership with Operations leadership.
- Ensure consistent compliance with safety standards and Job Hazard Analysis requirements across all projects.
- Ensure consistent management and oversight of M/W/DBE requirements across the portfolio.
- Recruit, mentor, evaluate, and develop Project Managers and Senior Project Managers.
- Prepare and present portfolio performance, forecasts, and risk assessments to executive leadership.
- Drive resolution of escalated project risks and issues, including material flow, subcontractor, and vendor disputes.
- Partner with Operations, Estimating, and Engineering leadership on project strategy and pursuit decisions.
- Ensure accurate and timely job cost projections, earned value analysis, and monthly billing across all projects in the portfolio.
- Review and approve project documentation, submittal, RFI, and change order processes prepared by project teams.
- Maintain professional, cooperative relationships with subcontractors, vendors, manufacturers, engineers, architects, and clients at the executive level.
Qualifications:
- BS in Engineering (Electrical) or an appropriate technical discipline, or commensurate industry experience.
- 12+ years of construction project management experience in an electrical contracting environment, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing multiple projects or Project Managers.
- Extensive experience with public works contracts for agencies such as the Port Authority, MTA, NYSDOT, NYCDOT, DDC, and DEP.
- Demonstrated track record of managing a multi-project portfolio with full P&L accountability.
- Strong executive presence and communication skills, with experience representing the company to senior client and owner stakeholders.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop Project Managers and Senior Project Managers.
- Strong proficiency in document control and project scheduling software, along with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Working knowledge of Procore, Vista, Primavera P6, AutoCAD, and MicroStation preferred.
- Experience contributing to business development, proposals, and strategic pursuit decisions.
